This terminal will handle approximately 1,267,240 bushels of corn at full capacity, and will be serviced with a fleet of approximately 500 new covered hoppers.

The USDA predicts that U.S. corn farmers will continue selling to domestic food industries and cut back on exports in order to supply domestic ethanol producers.  The price of U.S. corn both abroad and at home is bound to rise; consequently, logistics, transportation and distribution will be a major factor in pricing FOB destination cost.

Corn is a staple of American agriculture and a cornerstone of our economy.  Corn is America ’s biggest crop and the world benefits from the USA harvest.  Corn has come a long way since the Mayans of Mexico first learned to domesticate the tall tropical grass they called maize about 9,000 years ago.

Fifty percent (50%) (half) of the U.S. crop goes to feed cattle, pigs and poultry.  Another twenty-five (25%) goes to ethanol and twenty percent (20%) is exported.  The balance goes to make food ingredients, chemicals, fabrics and plastics.

Excel (our company) has an excellent opportunity to enter the grain export market from Illinois , and expand our services in addition to repairing and leasing railroad freight cars.

It is forecasted that in the near future, Illinois will domestically export approximately 1.1 billion bushels of corn.  Texas is predicted to import 250 million bushels and Mexico (internationally) will import 25% of its corn needs.  Much of this corn is shipped in railroad covered hopper freight cars.

Illinois is one of the largest states to produce corn.  It sits in the middle of corn country with excellent rail transportation systems.  Transportation and logistics is within the knowledge and expertise of our operating services and systems of material handling.
